Synthetic and solid/void assignment

 Synthetic and solid/void assignment

Main interests:
  • zig-zag movement
  • expanding and shrinking
  • corners
My solid/void model was an experiment on how zigzag patterns affect space defining
One of the things I enjoy most in my model are the voids that appear to be small and insignificant on the outside but very complicated and special on the inside

I am also caught up by the imprints of triangular shapes on the outside of the model. The create a specific direction of movement that is useful in creating a unified model with clear approach

  1. I like this description of how your model works, especially your reading of movement and directionality in the triangular voids that define your façade here. This is a nice moment that is worth exploring further. Use it to push your concept forward by really thinking about the meaning and possibility of this idea: For instance, think about this idea of movement/directionality in relation to what we've learned about space from de Certeau. What does it mean to say your façade, or your design in general, has movement/direction? How does the movement of the exterior relate to the space and movement of the interior? How do these triangular voids relate to the directionality and movement of your occupants?

Final documentation and reflection

Final reflection Name : Contoured echoing Design approach and central concept: Design a model that would have two different uses in it – parkour training and normal inhabitation Design approach A: component model, continuing analysis of the site, focusing on the misaligning offsets of rows of bricks and switching axis to create new corners; also components themselves and their configuration resulted in slices of space; Design approach B: relief model from the analysis of the building; contoured exaggeration of the offset of bricks; coming up with a hierarchy of spaces based on different facades of the site Hybridization: choose specific and most interesting parts from the design approach A model, modify them based on different parkour movements, use interlocking contours and framing from the design approach B model. Doubling vertical planes with a frame to open up the model + frames are used as support when performing parkour Occupan...

Friedman's essay + beginning to define occupants

1.         Friedman argues that Tuss Schroder played a critical role in Rietveld's design for her house. What role did Schroder play, according to Friedman?  o    She had strong and specific ideas about early childhood, open space and modern family. That helped to create and shape an elaborate design that fit the program. Based on Friedman's essay, what is the program that defined Rietveld's design? Language Diagram: Make a list of its defining actions/ relationships in one column and their associated spatial qualities, including light, enclosure, threshold & boundaries, intensities of occupation, etc. in a second column. o        Defining actions/relationships o        Spatial qualities o        Specific features o        Family can be b...

Occupant 1 male 30s outdoor parkour wild natural dangerous solo training in the beginning running up the walls, vaulting, grasping bars Occupant 2 female 30s indoor parkour repetitive technical solo training in the beginning landing, rolling and precision activities Two occupants start with solo training of parkour in the beginning of the day. They have different styles and parkour movements. Occupant 1 goes through different parkour movements one by one. Occupant 2 has repeats the combination of actions. By the of the day they come together for jamming - training together and sharing styles.
