Final documentation and reflection

Final reflection

Name: Contoured echoing
Design approach and central concept:
Design a model that would have two different uses in it – parkour training and normal inhabitation
Design approach A: component model, continuing analysis of the site, focusing on the misaligning offsets of rows of bricks and switching axis to create new corners; also components themselves and their configuration resulted in slices of space;
Design approach B: relief model from the analysis of the building; contoured exaggeration of the offset of bricks; coming up with a hierarchy of spaces based on different facades of the site
Hybridization: choose specific and most interesting parts from the design approach A model, modify them based on different parkour movements, use interlocking contours and framing from the design approach B model.
Doubling vertical planes with a frame to open up the model + frames are used as support when performing parkour
Occupants and interior explanation: my first occupant is a young traceur and my second occupant is a philosopher. The traceur performs parkour most of the day and records his movements in the spare time. His parkour activities are running up the walls (first blue area) – space mostly consists of high walls with imbedded frame for support, vaulting (second blue area) – space has two shorter walls or framed obstacles which provide jumping-over motion, all parkour actions combined (second blue area), and grasping on bars.
The philosopher teaches the traceur in study room area (purple area).
The philosopher occupies the upper floor (pink area). His parkour movements are only jumping on and from obstacles. He practices them rarely, most of the day he meditates. His space is open to the environment, the solid partially slanted hills are for practicing
As a teacher, the philosopher follows the traceur. The philosopher is not capable of moving using parkour movements, so, he uses stairs that are hidden in the model.  He can get anywhere just using normal circulation.
Connection to the site: language of sliced spaces. Partially disjointed from the façade to provide parkour movement from the windows + open area underneath for public use and sharing of interests and styles, which makes the courtyard inhabitable.

Synthetic and solid/void assignment

  Synthetic and solid/void assignment Main interests: zig-zag movement expanding and shrinking corners My solid/void model was an experiment on how zigzag patterns affect space defining One of the things I enjoy most in my model are the voids that appear to be small and insignificant on the outside but very complicated and special on the inside I am also caught up by the imprints of triangular shapes on the outside of the model. The create a specific direction of movement that is useful in creating a unified model with clear approach

Finalizing occupants

Occupant 1: young 20s, parkour tracer, films himself doing parkour movements Occupant 2: old 50s, parkour philosopher, retired, still does a couple of parkour movements but mainly enjoys teaching and reading Occupant 1 starts as a basic traceur. He does two parkour movements outdoors, films them, he also watches those videos. Occupant two practices two parkour movements and reads in the spare time. Occupant 1 comes to occupant 2 to be a student. So, the philosopher teaches him everyday. The young traceur studies every morning an then foes practicing and filming. In the end of the day he watches videos in the home theater. The philosopher prefers meditating outdoors early in the morning and then teaches the traceur. During the day he tries to practice parkour. In the evening the philosopher reads and relaxes in the library. Assignment 1: to translate a real site model into the drawing you need to be specific with details get attention to differences and discrepancies between patterns use architectural details as the foundation for drawing use rules only as tools, not as the main idea not completely satisfied with work because there were better opportunities for a model but the time killed it
